Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are the most common dental restoration treatment used today. A “cap” of dental material is shaped to fit over the top of a damaged tooth, returning it to its original shape and size. Baum Dental Clinic may be able to repair your tooth with a dental crown.

Damage above the gumline (cracked, broken, or worn teeth that have not disturbed the root) can be repaired by applying a crown. Crowns are also used in bigger procedures, such as dental bridges, implants, and root canals.

The material needed for a crown will depend on a budget, the position of the crown in the mouth, and the cosmetic effect desired. Our staff can help you decide which is the best choice for you.

Metal crowns are typically only used on the back teeth. They are very strong and a good choice for the increased chewing pressures that back teeth endure, but they are also silver in color. Most patients do not want silver on the front teeth.

Stainless steel is usually only used for temporary crowns.

All-resin crowns can wear down over time but are more economical.

All-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns are popular for their strength and color matching abilities.
